Getting to the First Page of Google

I hit a milestone this week.  I discovered my company name listed 2 times on the first page of Google for my keywords.

After I did the “happy dance”, I acknowledged  my success in diligently having implemented all that I had learned in the training courses I have taken in the last few years – Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Link Building,  Social Media Marketing, Content Marketing, Video Marketing, Website Creation or re-Creation and having all the right components necessary to make my website work for me.

I paid no-one to magically take my website to the first page of Google with any of the claims of software or secret “get to 1st place in Google in a day” claims.  I did it all “organically” and over a period of a few months.  And blogging was a large part of my success, because the 2 links appearing on the 1st page are links to blogs I have recently posted.

The results of my diligence and work are the “proof”…..not only have I succeeded but I can provide the same level of success for my clients.

Why do Businesses want to reach the first page in Google or any other search engine?

§  Statistics show that the average person who searches in Google never goes beyond the first page of Google (or any other search engine).   The statistics for those who move to the 2nd page of listings drops dramatically and for 3rd page, 4th page and so on.

§  Statistics say that “organic” links are favoured 90/% over the usual top 3 “paid” listings (30%).

§  Statistics show that 85% of individuals use Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, You Tube, Twitter and Facebook) to find what they are looking for.

When the search engine crawlers evaluate websites, they highly rate:

1.  Quality of the Link:

  • Domain Age
  • Relevancy of the content
  • How current the content is
  • Traffic Levels
  • Page Rank

2.  Relevant content:

Based on the keywords/phrases embedded on the sites

3.  Link Popularity:

The number of quality one way links to the site from other relevant sites

And paramount is the Keyword Research that must be done FIRST to select the best keywords/phrases that accurately describe the business products and/or services and make sure that they are populated into the Page Title, Meta Description, Alt Images and Content.  The search engine crawlers will find and identify those keywords/phrases on the site and match them to what search terms will be used by individuals to find the relevant information they are seeking.

Where do you rank on the Search Engines?  Once you have found your listing, a good tip I can give you is to monitor it – every week or month – to see how you get ranked – what is working in your strategy and what is not.
